Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is rest.
This past week has been one of those eye-opening weeks, where no matter how intentional I am, life has a different plan for me. Sometimes we need to surrender to the plan. This was one of those times.
I’m a pretty strong willed person so it takes me a lot of time to let go of something. I’m very focussed on my goals, focussed on manifesting big goals right now and I’m being very intentional about bringing those to life. The thing is, it wasn’t happening as fast as I wanted it and I was getting very very frustrated. All parts of my life felt like they were falling apart or at least I wasn’t getting my way (laughing at myself as I am writing this).
I decided to pause and reflect on why this was not working the way it always has. I’m a queen manifestor.
And so in Maria fashion, I pulled a card from the Sacred Traveller Oracle Cards deck by Denise Linn. Of course, the card that I pulled said “Surrender to the Journey”, “Release control”. It went on to say that it’s time to let go and all is well. It’s about trusting the universe and it’s about allowing the flow to happen in your life. I teach this, but I wasn’t living it.
There are many times in my life when I’ve had to slow down and enjoy the journey. Can you relate to that? Many years ago I had a coach that took me out for lunch on my birthday and said to me “I have a challenge for you”. I’m always up for a challenge and this was probably one of the hardest ones I’ve ever had in my life. She asked me to not do anything for 30 days and to simply enjoy the life that I built for myself. No clients, no busy house cleaning, no over-committing. I lived in a beautiful home, have a beautiful daughter and I was making a lot of money. BUT I was busy checking things off a list all the time as opposed to enjoying the journey and being present. This week was another one of those wake up calls.
Surrendering to the Universe
Often or maybe I should say most of the time we feel like we need to always be in control and knowing that next step. We want to be able to know the path and see it in front of us, always knowing the “how”.
Reality is, we can’t control everything in life and when I teach this, I always teach this in a special way. You make a list of things that you have a control over, that is your list, and then the universe is list the things you can’t control. There’s a sweet spot where you actually are taking action in the direction you wanna go and allowing the universe to bring it to you. It’s a beautiful co-creation. There’s so many times when we want to control everything and that’s when life gets hard.
Surrendering really is the answer. And the stubborn ME has tested this over and over and it always proves to be the right path. We don’t have to have it all figured out. We don’t have to know the how all the time. Simply set your intention and enjoy the journey. Do what you can to help it come to fruition, but you don’t have to control every aspect of it. When you let the universe create with you, life becomes easy or at least easier?
The last piece I wrote was about here was the Addiction to Struggle and how we you always seem to find or look for the hard path. is allowing it to be easy seems crazy but we seem to do it over and over. They’re actually is a biological reason why we do this, but we no longer live in those hunter gatherer times.
Depth Over Speed
This year I made the decision to focus on quality over quantity. Slowing down and embracing the work that I’m actually doing and producing better work. This goes for my writing here on Substack and for my YouTube channel and for quite frankly for all the things I do. For instance, I have been more intentional about the food I’m eating and enjoying cooking which I’ve always loved, but I’m allowing myself the time to do it well and enjoy it. We don’t know how many days we have on this planet so making the most of each and every day is key. It’s about a life of no regrets.
Living in the now is where it’s at and finding the joy every single day. We actually have a whiteboard in our kitchen now and on it you will find “Find Joy Every Day. It’s way too easy to get busy in the world we live in today and get stressed out about all the things that are happening and truly miss out on the life. We have right now.
It all comes back to slow living. Savouring every moment in every day, being present as often as possible, and doing more things that bring you joy. If you feel you don’t have time for this really look at how you’re spending your time. Is it time for a digital detox? We are so hardwired to our phones now it’s ridiculous. Put it down and start living life!
Just know that you don’t have to control everything. You can allow it to come to you. Yes, you still need to take some level of action, but you don’t have to control the whole thing. What if the universe has something way better in store for you and you’re pushing for something less. Pause for a moment and just reflect on that. What if you meant for more you are playing too small? This is exactly where I feel I’m at right now. It’s uncomfortable but I default to my “go to” saying…this too shall pass.
Enjoy today.
An Invitation…
Take a quiet moment. Light a candle. Put your hand on your heart. And let these questions guide you inward:
Where in my life am I trying to control the outcome instead of trusting the process?(What might shift if I allowed it to unfold naturally?)
What am I filling my time with that feels more like avoidance than alignment?(What would it look like to pause and choose presence instead?)
What does “quality over quantity” mean to me right now—in my time, my work, and my energy?(Where can I do less, but with more intention?)
With Joy and Abundance,
Maria
This was the message I needed to hear today. Thank You.
